Maria, Christian and Sophia
Maria created a drawing of herself on the left, her cousin, Christian, in the middle, and her baby sister, Sophia, on the right. This work is much more detailed than her earlier people drawings. She has chosen to place the focus on Christian and Sophia more than herself, who is depicted on the side, looking on to her family. Christian and Sophia are drawn as a "monkey" family, according to her. Perhaps it is a statement about their silliness. The characters are situated above a writing template, an instrument she uses to practice her new skill of writing. This placement shows writing as the new foundation for all of her expression. This is a marker drawing, created in her fifth year.
